BODHI continues its long-standing support of indigenous peoples in Bangladesh's CHT by donating funds collected by the Australian Jumma (collective name for all the CHT's indigenous peoples) directly to Moanoghar.
Moanoghar was founded in 1974 by a group of socially engaged laypeople and Buddhist monks to provide shelter and education to children displaced and orphaned by the building of the Kaptai Dam in the 1960s and the 1971 war resulting in the nation of Bangladesh.
Currently Moanoghar cares for about 300 children, residential and non-residential, aged between 7-18 years.
Some objectives
* To provide shelter, food, clothes, general and vocational eduction and primary health care to the indigenous poor, orhpan and destitute children of the CHT
* To contribute in the social, religious, education, cultural and economic development of the indigenous peoples of the CHT
* To undertake programs of public welfare and to inculcate the idea of universal solidarity and peace with a view to establishing world peace
* To eradicate illiteracy and initiate income-generating and employment projects for the people of the CHT
* To eliminate the root causes of poverty and offer the people their righteous shares in the resources of society
