January, 2012. Message from Kohinur Akter
Kohinur Akter, recipient of the Inaugural Denis Wright Memorial Scholarship for
Underprivileged Female Working Children through UCEP in Bangladesh, has a message for you:
'I was a little low before doing my Nurses' Aide course as life had no direction and my family's economic state is poor. Today, I am confident with the knowledge and skills that will help me improve our living standard and live a decent life. Thank you.'
BODHI has instituted four scholarships for girls in Bangladesh to honour BODHI Director Dr Denis Wright. He specialises in South Asian history and culture and requests that the scholarships be for female
education. Ms Tahsinah Ahmed, his old friend, suggested choosing recipients from UCEP and Moanoghar. She notes, 'The scholarships honour Dr. Wright's contribution to and affection for Bangladesh and his continuous efforts to promote education for disadvantaged girls, specially in the South Asia region.'
In addition to Tahsinah Ahmed, we thank Brigadier General Aftab Uddin Ahmad (Retd) of UCEP for bringing the first scholarship to fruition.
