Well, BODHI India is not a legal entity or even an organisation, but we've taken the first step and hired Mr Krishan Chakma as
BODHI's Program Coordinator South Asia on a one-year trial basis.
Krish (left, with SNEHA children at Diyun, AP, India) has a Bachelor's degree in Economics, Political Science, Man & Environment and a Masters degree in social work. Krish has worked with Actionaid India, sSTEP, Lotus Flower Trust UK, Navsarjan and in Gujurat with dalits, Maharastra with tribals and Meghalaya with khasi. He successfully designed and implemented programmes on shelter, health, education and livelihood for the underprivileged and marginalised groups.
We at BODHI are always looking for ways to be of more benefit to our local partners and the communities they serve. In evaluating some of BODHI projects in South Asia, Krish found that our local partners seemed to be a little lacking in knowledge and skills necessary in the social work field of today. They seem to have initiated organizations out of genuine interest and concern about the existing situations of their respective communities, which is laudable but needs to be upgraded with more knowledge and skills to better benefit the communities. Hence building the capacity of the partners through skills training, monitoring, guidance, facilitation and evaluation to become more efficient and effective in their efforts is seen essential on BODHI's part to achieve the objectives of both funding partner and fund-receiving partners.
As BODHI has increased the number and complexity of its projects in South Asia, it has been clear for some time that we need a representative resident in South Asia. We're concerned about the effectiveness of our efforts to maximise outcomes with minimal resources. The physical presence of a BODHI representative will not only bridge the gaps and lapses that have been seen especially in communication and in the implementation of the projects but also will give our local partners more confidence through enhancing knowledge, skills and personal interaction.
Further, BODHI's presence among the communities in which it works will become stronger and more visible, and will help to generate authentic information through regular community interaction (quarterly, half yearly and annual projects progress reports). BODHI can now explore and identify genuine and committed partners for possible future partnership to expand its works and presence.
