Over-Forty Women's Health Project

Health message by drama and dance performance on slum streets in Pune, India
This project funds ten medical camps per year, for nearly 400 over-forty women facing or already experiencing menopause. All labour is donated. The doctors will check for both breast and uterine cancers which, if detected early enough, can save the lives of many women.
A camp is a half-day activity, to be held six-month intervals in the five areas of the Vishrantwadi slums in Pune, India: Shanti Nagar, Panchshil Nagar, Sanjay Park, Ekta Nagar and Rajiv Gandhi Nagar.
Objectives:
* To decrease the morbidity and mortality due to cancer in women in five slums
* To give women correct & adequate knowledge of female cancers
* To provide early detection and referrals for treatment
'In India, cancer is the third leading cause of death,' Karuna Prabha (Dr. Manda Mune) writes . 'There are 1.52 million cancer patients at any point , with 0.6 million people dying from cancer every year. Commonest cancers in women in India are cervical and uterine. We can teach women about the causation, symptomatology and danger signals of cancer and early detection by conducting the detection camps in slums.'
