The Goal
- Provide poor Tibetan nomad families with credit access, enabling a five-year loan of reproductive age ewes, thus fostering economic self-sufficiency and reducing inequality
- Inject funds into the local economy by purchasing ewes from local, wealthier nomads
- Create a self-perpetuating sheep bank that will continue to loan sheep to poor households after the initial five-year period
BODHI steps in where traditional aid organisations fear to tread. We take chances. We welcome the unusual, the risky, the unglamorous, the non PC (politically correct). Bring it on!
Professor Melvyn C Goldstein had been refused funding from traditional aid organisations for the Revolving Sheep Bank when he approached us in 2000. BODHI's funding began the following year.
